Alanya: Essential Tourist Information

image
Alanya is one of the most popular and recognizable Turkish seaside cities, surrounded by mountains. It is not a large city in terms of width, but rather a "long" one, stretching along the Mediterranean coast for 75 km.

General Information

Alanya is one of the largest districts in Antalya Province, with a population of approximately 300,000. The city is located 40 km from Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (GZP) and 125 km from Antalya Airport (AYT).

Popular Excursions from Alanya

Among the most sought-after excursions for tourists are Jeep safaris, boat tours, Cappadocia trips, paragliding, rafting, and mixed tours that include rafting and a visit to the Green Canyon.

Alanya offers the widest range of excursions, including evening tours such as a Jeep sightseeing tour with a cable car ride.

If you plan to visit Pamukkale or Myra-Demre-Kekova, be aware that Alanya is the farthest starting point for these destinations.

Advantages of Alanya

  1. Hotels for Every Budget – Alanya has over 300 large hotels, making it easy to find an option that suits your needs.

  2. Diverse Beaches – The city offers a mix of sandy beaches, pebble beaches, and combined types. Knowing where to find your preferred beach type is key.

  3. Affordable Travel – Alanya frequently ranks among the most budget-friendly destinations in Turkey.

Disadvantages of Alanya

  1. Difficult Hotel Selection – With 12 different resort zones, each with unique features and beaches, choosing the right hotel can be time-consuming or risky if relying solely on travel agents.

  2. Distance from the Airport – Although Alanya has its own airport, it is small. The majority of tourists arrive via Antalya Airport, requiring a 1.5 to 2.5-hour bus transfer.

  3. Scattered Attractions – While there are many historical and natural sites in Alanya, they are spread across its extensive coastline, making accessibility a challenge.
